The Top CBD Oil for Cats
Cannabidiol (CBD) is forever changing the medical industry for good. It took decades of social activism and scientific research, but the prohibition of cannabis is finally coming to an end.
This has allowed people across the country access to the medicine they need. Little did we know, that was just the beginning. Our furry friends can also reap the benefits of CBD.
The popularity and availability of CBD can make it difficult to decide what kind to buy for your pets. Keep reading to learn about the best CBD oil for cats.
Cats Being Dosed
No, CBD does not stand for Cats Being Dosed, but wouldn’t that be cool?
Jokes aside, we’ve been working with CBD oil and cats for years now and we couldn’t be happier with the results. Pet owners across America are discovering the many benefits of treating cats and dogs with CBD.
The jury is still out as to whether cats can have a little salami. However, CBD is proven to be safe and effective in the vast majority of cases. And since CBD is not psychoactive, you won’t have to worry about your cats getting too stoned or anything like that.
Is CBD Oil Safe for Cats?
First and foremost, safety is our number one concern. We want nothing but the best for our feline friends and would never give them anything without knowing that it is safe.
However, CBD has been demonstrated to be just as safe in cats as it is in humans. In fact, the side effect profile for CBD is almost non-existent.
CBD is safe to give to your cats, especially when compared to other drugs such as acetaminophen, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and steroid medications. Of course, you should always follow the recommendations of your veterinarian before administering any medication to your cat.
How Can Cats Benefit from CBD?
It turns out that cats, like humans and other mammals, have an extensive system of endocannabinoid receptors. CBD, THC and other cannabinoids attach to these receptors to exert their effects.
CBD is responsible for the medicinal effects of cannabis. Most of the same benefits we see in people can also be seen in cats.
Here is why we love CBD oil for cats. Benefits range from pain relief to mood stabilization.
Mood and Behavior
Is your pet suffering from Grumpy Cat Syndrome? Symptoms include loss of interest in playing or eating, irritability, and strange behavior.
It turns out that cats that go around destroying things probably aren’t sinister. They are probably just anxious. They get stressed too!
CBD is perfect for anxious and nervous cats. If your cat is acting a little differently, they might need a little dose.
Pain and Inflammation
One of the most important uses of cannabis oil is its ability to alleviate pain and inflammation. This is useful for common aches and pains, such as soreness after physical activity.
Cats don’t go to the gym but it doesn’t mean they don’t feel pain. Plus, older cats are at a higher risk to suffer from arthritis.
CBD helps cats deal with all types of pain. Arthritic pain can limit mobility, so if you notice your cat is less active than before, they might be in pain. CBD oil can help them get to scurrying around like the wild felines they are.

Calculating the Right Dosage
They say what is good for the goose is good for the gander. However, sometimes it is not so simple.
CBD is known to be safe and non-toxic. However, we don’t recommend starting your pet with a massive dose.
Generally speaking, it is best to start with a smaller dose for the first two weeks, so that you can gauge how your cat responds to the oil. After that two week period, you may increase or decrease the dosage as desired.
It is important to note that not all animals respond to CBD oil in the same way. Some pets respond very well to a low dose while others may need an extra boost. The key is to stay consistent! We suggest gradually increasing your cat’s dosage until you are satisfied with the results.
Low Dosage
A low dose would be about 0.05 mg/lb to given twice daily. So, if your cat is 10 lb, you should give it 0.5 mg twice a day.
This is where you should start for the first two weeks in most cases.
Medium Dosage
After the initial two week period of administering your cat a low dose, you may find there is still room for improvement – this is not unusual!
We recommend gradually increasing from a low dose to a medium dose – remember to stay consistent with your dosing. Ultimately, your goal is to hone in on the sweet spot.
A medium dosage is 0.125 mg/lb twice a day.
High Dosage
A strong dose is about .25 mg/lb twice daily. A 10 lb cat would need 2.5 mg in the morning and again at night.
Remember, most cats will not require such a strong dose. However, cats with cancer or other severe conditions might need stronger doses.
